Event Manager (Temporary/Seasonal)
The East Montgomery County Improvement District in the greater Houston area seeks an experienced event manager to oversee daily operations at its A Holiday to Remember event. The 16-day indoor event, beginning December 19, includes an ice skating rink, snow slides, bumper cars, train rides, and a holiday market. Most of the planning, attractions and vendors have already been secured. The event manager will join the organization in early November to take over staff scheduling, logistics, if needed, and finalize any remaining details. The position will work closely with the special events coordinator, director of facilities & vendor management, and ice rink manager to ensure smooth planning and execution of the event. The position will become familiar with all roles at the event, including ticketing, vendors, attractions, skate shop, and maintenance in order to properly train, mentor, and supervise staff and successfully run day-to-day operations. The event manager must work all days of the event, including weekends, evenings, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Primary Purpose:
Manage all aspects of the 16-day event, including overseeing logistics, staff scheduling, coordination and other necessary details, as well as ensuring event is executed to the highest of standards and continuously improve quality.
Term of employment:
Approximately November 1, 2020 – January 15, 2021

Chief Communications Officer
Special Events Coordinator
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Superior management skills and experience with multi-faceted festival/event management
Ability to interact effectively with various people and departments in collaborative settings, but also must have the ability to work independently
Proven “customer service” attitude
Experience:
Minimum 3 years of experience in marketing, communications, event planning, or equivalent
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Execute a plan set forth to operate a 16-day event, including an ice skating rink, skate shop, holiday market, bumper cars, snow slide, train rides, 9-hole golf, movies, food & beverage vendors
2. Responsible for updating and tracking all aspects of the employee schedule and task requirements
3. Responsible to mentor staff to maintain a successful team-oriented environment
4. Provide over-all logistical support for the event, working in tandem with the director of facilities & vendor management
5. Ensure the safety of all staff through proper training
6. Responsible for supervision of areas to include but not limited to technicians, staff, facility maintenance and cleanliness, scheduling, daily meetings and information dissemination, inventory & procurement of equipment, materials and supplies
7. Responsible for developing and maintaining quality standards throughout all assigned tasks
8. Act as front-line management representative and as a liaison with ice rink manager
9. Submit daily reports to special events coordinator and director of facilities & vendor management detailing all event-related and/or maintenance issues
10. Interact with guests by greeting them and providing excellent service in an efficient and courteous manner
11. Interact with others in a professional manner
12. Close out all events as required
13. Propose new ideas to improve the event planning and implementation process
14. Maintain confidentiality of information
15. Other duties as assigned
