Connecting recruitment, scheduling, communication and tracking to create a more efficient volunteer program.
Great volunteer programs don’t happen by accident. Recruitment, scheduling, communication and tracking all have to work together — and that’s where our flux capacitor comes in. We’ll look at how to connect all the moving pieces, make things easier for your volunteers and your team, and hopefully spend a little less time chasing spreadsheets, emails and people. If we can get it all working together, we may even hit 88 mph.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Connect recruitment, scheduling, communication and tracking so they work together instead of feeling like four completely different jobs.
- Figure out where their volunteer process is creating extra work for staff or frustration for volunteers — and how to fix it.
- Use technology to make volunteer management easier while still keeping the experience personal.
- Use volunteer data to better understand who is showing up, where people are needed and what is actually working.
- Build a volunteer program that is easier to manage, better for volunteers and hopefully involves a lot less chasing people, spreadsheets and emails.
Alex McNulty is senior manager of Member Services for the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association, where he helps keep more than 1,500 volunteers organized, engaged and moving in the same direction — which is sometimes an event all by itself. With a background in hospitality, customer experience and large-scale event operations, Alex believes great volunteer programs should be well-organized, welcoming and, above all, fun. He is an IFEA Certified Festival & Event Executive (CFEE), a Leadership Pasadena graduate and chair-elect of the IFEA Foundation Board.
